Here is the treatment of the murder of Kevin McDaid by the conistently excellent Channel 4 news team.
Â
I would be grateful if any of you could post up here how this story was treated in Scotland by the print media or on TV.
It clear from this youtube clip that the C4 team focussed on the football element to the murder.

Many thanks for that.
I had suspected that the Scottish papers would not want to dwell on the celebrations of some Rangers fans in Coleraine.

The Murder was reported in the “scottish” sun on the following Tuesday ( it may have been in Monday’s paper also ?).The papers focus was on a weekend of Murder “3 dead” in Glasgow. Much was made of the fact that the police were very quick to point out that none of the murders in Glasgow were football related yet due to a hedonistic sunny bank holiday weekend, although I believe all the murders happened on the Sunday (?)atnthe time of or in the aftermath of the football. The sad murder of Mr McDaid (in this issue) had around 3 column inches , as a sort of side note to the violence in Glasgow, at the top left of the page. Woefull , the Scottish press red tops are very poor excuses for papers, in many respects.

Zilch. Nada. Mind you I wasn’t paying much attention to newspapers all week. I did spot a postage stamp-size report in a couple of rags though. They mentioned that there were football matches on and that the trouble might be related to them but that was it!
Yet one bampot goes to Ibrox with IRA written on his tricolour and gets double-page spreads in the rags!
Meanwhile, in England (the motherland), news reports were utterly fair and balanced. Maybe reported in with bit of ‘Newsround’ for children type of stating the obvious but quite conclusive none the less.
A return to the real dark days? Lord, please no.
