Time moves on, unfortunately progress against racism (specifically antiIrish, Catholic)has not.

The Herald Scotland (24 Mar 2011) reporting on Kenny MacAskill's comments re Celtic v Rangers match 20.3.11.."Kenny MacAskill has been criticised for stating the game was a “showpiece for Scottish football” and praising the “positive behaviour inside the ground” despite several banned sectarian anthems being heard."

Its shameful and unacceptable that a Scottish Justice Secretary should not only turn a 'blind eye and ears' to illegal racism.........but declare the match a showpiece.

Mr MacAskill was representing the government at the match!
Only in Scotland .................

Scotland's shame indeed - perpetrated by its politicians.

"The concept of telling immigrant groups to 'Go home' is a global racist mantra."

Bearing this concept in mind, is 'Go home ya Huns' racist, sectarian or banter?

It is not a devolved "assembly" in Edinburgh, it is a Parliament. Thank you for respecting Scotland.

If 'The Famine Song' stops please be assured that the Rangers support will find another anti-Irish catholic chant or song to take its place. Anyone at a Celtic V Rangers match at CP listens to pure sectarian hatred from the Rangers support, stuck in the right hand corner of CP (from the main stand), for the entire game. Following the match God forbid that you happen to be in a pub that they attack (usually on the fringes of the Calton and The Gallowgate). And usually a bar where the clientele will be older Celtic supporters and not one crowded with young militant fans who would confront them. That is the way they are and that is the primary reason why (in my view), there is always far more trouble following a Celtic victory.

Of course, we have bums in our support, but the levels of viciousness displayed by the lumpen element amongst the Rangers support is far worse. It explains why you would never walk through Bridgeton X after any Celtic game. I did once, about 15 years ago, and following the throat slitting episode of Mark Scott. Police everywhere but never again. You could sense the hatred directed towards Celtic fans by neds and bums standing outside pubs.

I cant agree more with the above comments, the singing of the Famine Song should be banned and penalties imposed on individuals caught doing so. I think you are forgetting that Celtic fans are also guilty of sectarian singing, and we should not simply look to blame the other side. Our PR and deflection tactics are far better than Rangers and thus they receive far worse criticism in the press but lets not forget that we have an unsavoury element within our support, and reference to terrorist groups and members of those groups do not look good.
