Being a "campaigning journalist" and "literary dissident"(whatever that means) any thoughts on the abuse of thousands of irish citizens by the catholic church?

I hear you completely. Apart from the real Irish pubs (in Govanhill, the Gorbals, etc.) where there will be a genuine atmosphere and of course all of the 'Textbook corporate Paddy pubs' (O'Neills, Molly Malones, Failte, and on and on) will be doing a rare trade today with sales of silly hats and the blackstuff. There are certainly lots of 'localised' events been happening over the last few days also.

Where are the spectacles parades that make me so want to visit New York or Boston at this time of year? These events where everyone is invited to join in the party?

No, not in the Dear Green Place, the only city in the Western Hemisphere with a large Irish population that has yet to officially commemorate the Famine.

Regardless, Happy Paddy's day. See y'all in one pub or another tonight! (I'll be the one of the few NOT wearing a silly hat)
